Networking member gives free IT advice for the Christmas period

Release Date: 21.11.2016

Members of ebn (effective business network) were given free advice when the Director of IT Positive, David Lee, gave helpful IT tips for holiday periods.

Viruses are a big issue for any business using technology. However, one of the most popular ways for cyber criminals to send out a virus is through an email attachment.

David said: “Avoid viruses by not opening email attachments unless you are 100% certain that you know who they came from.

“Many businesses may close for holidays, for a week or so. When offices are left empty, damage to offices can affect the IT systems. Businesses should have an emergency plan in place so that they can keep trading.

“To avoid losing out on any business when you return, ensure that you have a full backup, stored off-site, of all your data. This means that, if your office has sustained any damage and cannot be used, you have everything you need to continue to operate at an alternative address.

David added: “Not every business closes at the same time for holidays. So, don’t forget to set your ‘out of office’ email responder, to ensure that your clients know when you will be back from the break. This way, they know when to expect a response or email again.”

David attends several ebn Groups – including Billericay, Maldon, Southend, Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford and Colchester. For more information on ebn, and to find out where your local Group meets, please visit

ebn Managing Director Glenys Chatterley said: “ebn members not only build good contacts to help grow their businesses but also get regular, free advice from experts to help them meet their business needs.

South Woodham Ferrers’ networkers age for charity

At a South Woodham Ferrers ebn (effective business network) meeting recently, members took on the challenge of wearing age-awareness equipment to give an insight on the challenges faced in later life.

Member Jean Robinson, from Age UK Essex, took along the age simulation suit, which included gloves, glasses, joint limiters and muscle waste simulators, for members to wear.

These are all items that can simulate the challenges that later life can bring and this einforces the reasons why Age UK Essex exists to support thousands of people each year to manage day-to-day in their golden years.

Managing Director of ebn Glenys Chatterly said: “ebn encourages each of our networking groups to support a local charity; the members represent businesses based in the local community, so they want to support that community.

“The South Woodham Ferrers Group has done exceptionally well by joining in with their chosen charity’s fundraising, and I am sure that the members will continue to support the charity each time they meet.”

South Woodham Ferrers members meet every other Tuesday at The Lodge Country Inn in Battlesbridge. Further information can be found at

If you have older customers and would like to discuss a training package for your staff, or would like to support Age UK Essex by regularly donating just £3 per month, please contact Jean on 01245 207065, or email .

Group Director for Billericay ebn, David Lee of IT Positive, said: “Our members meet on alternate Wednesdays at the Burstead Golf Club. We were delighted to hear Dean’s good news.
